Scarlet Macaw

A red colored scarlet Macaw is the perfect choice for a pet. Apart from red color, the parrot consists of blue, green and yellow colors in their flying feathers. They are generally 30-40 inches in height and are mostly observed in Central America, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, and much more regions. Its diet includes the consumption of Berries, Nutri-meals, diet pellets, and fresh fruits. The normal lifespan of a scarlet Macaw is 70-75 years. However, if they are not kept and cared properly then they may die earlier than their lifespan.

Hyacinth Macaw

The Hyacinth Macaw is one of the largest Macaws among all the parrots with a length of 40 inches and is mainly found in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia.  This parrot has cobalt color all over its body except for the beak and eyes section which are yellow in color. Because of its continuous poaching, smuggling, and feathers use, there are about 3000-5000 Macaws left in the world. Another reason for the few numbers of this species is its slow growth. The lifespan of Hyacinth Macaw is estimated to be 60 years and that only if they are properly nourished.

Blue and gold Macaw

The blue and gold Macaw is a very beautiful bird of dark yellow-colored chest and a black beak. Though it has a naked face, its face turned into pink when it blushes due to the excitement. The wings above its face are of green color and its legs are either grey or black. They live in forests and woodlands and are found in Central America following Brazil and Bolivia. The blue and gold Macaw eats the nutritional diet that is plant material, fruits, healthy vegetable nuts, and seeds. If it is properly nourished and cared then it can survive for 70-80 years and can become the lifetime companion of a person.

As similar to other Macaws, this Macaw possesses a high pitch voice and is capable to scream loud. The male Macaw has the weight of 1000-1200 grams and the height of 35 inches whereas the female possesses a lower weight and length. The blue and gold Macaw starts reproducing at an age of 4 or 5 years. However, their parents only keep the strong chicks which have the ability to grow and develop.

Military Macaw

The military Macaw is commonly found in South America and Mexico. It weighs 1000 grams and had a height of 70 centimeters. This bird is green in color with the flying feather blue and the tail red in color. With the yellow-colored eyes, its beak is grey and black. These birds are mainly known for their voice and screaming sounds. Their voice can be heard even at a large distance. They survive for about 50-60 years and their diet involves seeds, fruits, nuts, berries, vegetables, and other nutritional food. They live in high mountains probably at a height of 1000-2500 meter. Due to deforestation, the population of the military Macaw has diminished to a total of only 10,000 in the world.

Spix’s Macaw

The Spix’s Macaw is often called as little blue Macaw and is observed in the lands of Brazil. The bird is of blue color and weighs about 250-300 grams. Though the male and female Spix’s Macaw are similar, they differ in size as the female bird has a lower weight than that of a male bird. The Spix’s Macaw follows the extinct species and is rarely found. They consume seeds and nuts of diverse and non-native trees. It is the smallest species of Macaws with a length of 56 centimeters.

Great green Macaw

Buffon’s Macaw and the great military Macaw are the other names of the great green Macaw that is found in Central and South America. Like the red and green Macaw, this bird has a short tail and is the second heaviest bird on the earth with a weigh of around 1.5 kg.  Their body is of green color with red-colored forehead and has a tail comprising of brown, red and a blue color. Their diet is orchids and seeds. However, they are mostly dependent on Almendro tree for its 70 percent of the diet. Its voice is loud and high and produces the sounds like “aak and raak”. The Buffon’s Macaw is the part of endangered species.
